Elementary
In small classroom sizes, students can learn and grow at their own pace. They become independent learners and thinkers. We encourage students to ask questions, research for themselves and maintain open communication. Individual attention can be given to each student to strengthen weaker areas and improve their strengths.
Academics
We strive to make our classrooms a place where students are encouraged to do their best in every area - academically, socially, and morally. With clear goals for each grade level, we expect continuous growth across all subjects. Thanks to our small class sizes, teachers can easily adapt to the individual needs of each student, ensuring that every child receives the support and attention they need to succeed.
English
Elementary students in Grades 1-6 take daily English classes. Using an American English curriculum, students build a strong foundation in phonics, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Our unique SIS curriculum emphasizes the four key areas of language - reading, writing, speaking, and listening - so that every students develops into a confident and effective communicator in English.
Reading
Students are exposed to a variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction, and poetry through lively reading passages. Subject matter from across the curriculum deepens student knowledge while strengthening their reading skills.
Math
Using the My Pals Are Here Singapore curriculum, elementary students build a strong foundation across all areas of mathematics. The Singapore Math approach develops understanding through the CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) progression, while emphasizing number bonds, bar modeling, and mental math to strengthen problem-solving skills.
Science
Taught from a Christian perspective, our science program encourages students to explore the world around them, ask questions, and discuss different ideas and theories. Beginning in Grade 3, students are guided to deveop critical thinking skills as they investigate and form their own opinions.
Social Studies
Our Social Studies, History, and Geography program helps students understand history, geography, and culture from a Biblical perspective, starting in Grade 5 and continuing up through Junior High.
In grades 5 and 6, students follow a two-year cycle that explores Geography and World History, with a focus on Ancient Civilizations.
Music
Our Music program begins in Grade 1 and continues through Junior High, fostering both appreciation and proficiency in music. In Elementary, students learn to read music and play the piano, while also having opportunities to sing and perform at several annual school events.
Japanese
Using textbooks from Japanese schools, students study kanji and the Japanese language, developing reading, writing, and speaking skills in daily lessons.
Our program aims to equip students with the essential abilities to read, write, listen, and speak at their grade level, empowering them to express ideas, engage in meaningful discussions, and understand a wide range of texts.
Art
The elementary visual art curriculum focuses on PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN. This includes learning and experimenting with coloring, painting and texture techniques.
Home Economics is incorporated into the yearly art curriculum as part of the second term. All courses focus on skills need for daily life and the exploration of different careers.
Physical Education
Our P.E. program aims to meet students needs to physically develop and build stamina. Through individual and group activities, students learn how to work together and develop leadership in a practical area.
Computer
Computer courses are taught with a Christian worldview. Students learn that computer/technology is not just a tool or a toy, but it is another opportunity to know and glorify God and to serve their community and other individuals.
In elementary, students will explore the computer as a machine, the parts of the computer including hardware and software, typing courses and online drawing tools. Through Google Workspace, they acquire skills in word processing, spreadsheets, slide presentations, and basic programming, progressively advancing across grade levels. These foundational courses aim to equip them for more complex computer courses in junior high school.
Assessment and External Testing
Students will be assessed regularly for progress throughout the year. Reports will be given out twice a year showing progress in each subject with comments written by the teacher to explain the progress and areas of weakness.
Once a year students from Grade 3 and up will take TOEFL Primary (Age 7 - 11) or Junior (Age 12-14), they are tested in reading, listening, comprehension and vocabulary. They are also given the opportunity to take the speaking test which is done online.
