Junior High
Academics
We strive to make our classrooms a place where students are encouraged to do their best academically, socially, and morally. With clear goals for each grade level, we support continuous growth across all subjects. Small class sizes allow teachers to adapt lessons to each student’s individual needs, ensuring every child receives the guidance and attention necessary to thrive.
English
Junior High students have daily English classes designed to further develop their grammar, writing, and critical thinking skills using a U.S. English curriculum. Students focus on higher-level reading and writing, including essays, research papers, and narrative compositions.
Our unique curriculum emphasizes the four core elements of language - reading, writing, speaking, and listening - ensuring all students become confident and effective communicators in English.
Reading
Students explore a variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, through engaging reading passages. Content from across the curriculum not only deepens their knowledge but also strengthens essential reading skills.
Math
The goal of the Junior High Mathematics program is to develop students’ critical thinking and cultivate life-long problem solving skills. Students are encouraged not only to perform calculations but also to explain and justify their answers using analytical reasoning.
In partnership with Liberty University Online Academy, Sano International School provides students with a deep understanding of mathematical processes and strategies for producing accurate solutions. The Junior High curriculum covers pre-algebra in Grade 7, algebra in Grades 8, and more advanced algebra concepts in Grade 9, preparing students for success in high school mathematics.
Science
Taught from a Christian perspective, Junior High Science encourages students to explore the world around them, form opinions, and discuss a variety of ideas and theories. The program promotes scientific literacy by establishing foundational knowledge and skills, preparing students for more advanced study and real-world problem solving.
Social Studies
The Social Studies, History, and Geography program equips students with an understanding of history, geography, and culture from a Biblical perspective. In Grades 7-9, students complete a three-year cycle covering Cultural Geography, World History I, and World History II, building a comprehensive foundation for high school and beyond.
Music
Our Music program begins in Kindergarten and continues through Junior High, fostering both appreciation and proficiency in music. In Junior High, students participate in a band that plays for our monthly chapel meetings, learning to play four instruments; keyboards, guitar, bass and drums.
Japanese
Using textbooks from Japanese schools, students study kanji and the Japanese language, incorporating reading, writing, and speaking in daily lessons. The program aims to equip students with the essential skills to read, write, listen, and speak, proficiently at their grade level, empowering them to express ideas, engage in meaningful discussions, and comprehend a wide range of texts.
Art
Students explore creativity through personal experience, observation, imagination, and thematic projects. Math concepts such as symmetry and tessellations are integrated to enhance understanding.
The art curriculum includes one term of home economics and one term of art skills, providing a well-rounded creative education.
Physical Education
Our P.E. program supports students’ physical development, stamina, and overall health. Through individual and group activities, students learn teamwork, cooperation, and leadership in a practical, engaging environment.
Computer
Computer courses are taught from a Christian worldview, helping students understand that technology can be a tool to glorify God and serve their community.
Junior High students take an exploratory desktop publishing course to build on foundational skills learned in Elementary school. They develop proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Additionally, students learn the basics of project management, video production, design, editing, and introductory web scripting, with skills integrated across other subjects.
Assessment and External Testing
Students are regularly assessed throughout the year to monitor their progress. Twice a year, reports are provided for each subject, including teacher comments to highlight achievements and areas for growth.
Once a year, students in Grade 3 and above take TOEFL Primary (ages 7 - 11), or TOEFL Junior (ages 12-14) assessments. These tests evaluate reading, listening, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. Students also have the opportunity to take the online speaking test to further demonstrate their English proficiency.
