Annual Events

October

Family Festival - The Family Festival is a special event designed for families to connect one another, and for students and parents to engage through fun and interactive activities. The festival features stalls, games, and collaborative projects that encourage teamwork amongst students, while providing opportunities for parents to participate and work together. It also serves as a community outreach, inviting local neighbors to visit the school, explore the campus, and enjoy a day of fun and engagement.

School Trip - Each year we take a trip outside of the school to enrich the program and learning of students. We will have different trips for appropriate age groups - Kindergarten - Grades 3, Grades 4-6 ,and Junior High. Kindergarten parents are expected to attend with their children, but parents of Elementary and Junior High are not required to attend.

December

Christmas Celebration - Every year on the Saturday before Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The program varies each year and may include play and musical performances, as well as a shared meal, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. This special event brings students and parents together to share in the joy of Christmas.

April

Sports Day - Sports Day is a fun-filled event where students can showcase their athletic skills. It’s also a wonderful family day out, and we warmly encourage all families to attend—not only to cheer on the students but also to join in on the fun.

Lock-in - SIS hosts a Lock-In to provide students with an exciting time of fellowship, games, and fun activities, complete with delicious food. The Lock-In may take one of two forms:

  • Overnight Lock-In - Held every other year. Students stay overnight at the school and will go home by 09:00am the following morning.

  • Evening Lock-In - Students remain for afternoon activities and dinner only and will go home by 7:00pm.

Both options provide students with opportunities to build friendships, enjoy shared experiences, and strengthen the school community in a safe and supervised environment.

May

School Camp – Our school organizes camps in Japan and across Asia. Domestic camps last 2 nights and 3 days, while overseas camps are 3 nights and 4 days. Students participate in outdoor activities, experiential learning, chapel sessions, and theme-based programs, creating both educational and memorable experiences.

Example Destinations:

  • British Hills (Fukushima, Japan): English immersion experience and various activities

  • Okutama Bible Chalet (Japan): English immersion, rafting, and hiking

  • Nagano Resort (Japan): Hiking and cycling in nature

  • Overseas Destinations (usually in Asia): Taiwan, South Korea, Philippines, etc. (held once every four years)

Eligible Grades

  • Domestic camps: Grades 3 and above (2 nights, 3 days)

  • Overseas camps: Grades 5 and above (3 nights, 4 days; once every four years)

In a safe and supervised environment, students have the opportunity to strengthen friendships, explore nature, and experience different cultures, making lasting memories along the way.

July

Project Week – Is a time for students to engage in creative, life-skills teaching projects outside of the classroom. No classes are held during this week and each grade level will undertake several projects covering skills that can not always be covered during regular class times. School times will be the same as usual.

Speech Showcase- Is an opportunity for students to practice speaking or presentations in front of an audience, to memorize speeches, poems, songs and display their knowledge of both Japanese and English.

Graduation - Graduation celebrates students completing Kindergarten, Grade 6, or Junior High. It is a special time to reflect on their achievements, cherish memories, and honor all they have learned during their time at SIS.
