  • Classes start at 8:30am For Elementary - Junior High. Students are to arrive between 8:15-8:25am.

    For Monday - Thursday, Grades 1-2 are to be picked up at 3:20pm. For Grades 3-6, pick up time is at 3:30pm, and Junior High is at 4pm.

    On Fridays, school finishes at 2:20pm for Kindergarten - Grade 2, and 2:30pm for Grade 3-Junior High.

  • Yes, you will need to prepare your own lunch.

  • In the mornings, the school’s bus arrives at Sano Station at 8:05am. After school, it will leave school at 3:35pm, and on Fridays at 2:35pm. This is available starting from grade 1.

  • Kindergarten uniforms consist of polo t-shirts and sweatshirts that can be purchased through the school.

    Elementary and Junior High have uniforms that can be purchased at Lands End.

  • Shield: represents protection, strength and safety. 

    Globe: international, all nationalities are welcomed. 

    Fish: salmon that swim upstream against the tide.  We want to raise up children strong enough to swim against the tide & stand up for what they believe in.  

    Leaves: oak leaves that represent strength and righteousness.

    Bible: based on Biblical principles our desire is to train a child in the way he should go.  To guide our students to make good decisions and choose to do what is right.

  • Kindergarten: Students who learn from a young age learn English in a natural environment much in the same way they learn their mother-tongue.

    Elementary (Grade 1 - 6): Students are taught in a full-immersion English environment with curriculum from U.S. and Singapore at grade level. Students will develop proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English

    Junior High (Grade 7 - 9): Students will follow a more rigorous English curriculum that increases in their depth of study. This prepares them for the demands of full-immersion High School, ensuring they enter with confidence and strong language skills.

    Varying abilities and aptitude depends a lot on the individual child.

  • No. All communication with the school is available in both Japanese and English, so you can feel comfortable and confident interacting with teachers and staff at any time.

  • Sano International School is ACSI accredited school since 2024.

  • At Sano International School, we recommend that students choose the main language of study by the end of grade 6.

    English - Students who wish to continue studying primarily in English can stay at SIS for Junior High (Grades 7-9). Classes are combined with an online instruction with an accredited U.S. school, and in-person lessons with a Junior High teacher. Japanese language classes continues through Grade 8.

    From Grade 9, students may decide to attend an International High School in Japan.

    For grades 10-12 there is an Online Program option. Students participate in school events and come to school while completing their coursework through an accredited online U.S. program. Graduates earn a U.S. high school diploma, enabling them to apply to both foreign and Japanese universities with this qualification.

    Japanese - For students wishing to study mainly in Japanese, we recommend attending Japanese Junior High School in order to get the necessary language needed in all subjects for Japanese High School.

  • SIS graduates from grade 6 have gone on to Japanese public schools and private schools.

    SIS graduates from grade 8 have gone to Christian Academy in Japan in Tokyo for high school grades 9-12.

    SIS graduates from grade 9 have gone to International schools as well as U.S. high schools.

  • Yes! We are a school based on Christian values, however, we welcome families from different backgrounds and religions.
