ADMISSIONS

 

School Tours

If you would like to visit the school, please click on ‘Book a School Tour’ below to make an appointment. Please note that we require at least 2 weeks notice before bookings as bookings fill up quickly. School tours are available on the first Wednesday of the month in February, March, April & May for entrance to the school the following September. The school will not be open for tours during holidays.

Admissions

Please contact the Sano International School Office if you are interested in applying for admission in September 2023. Once your application has been received, you will be contacted to schedule an interview.

For those entering Preschool there will be an interview with parents.

For students entering Elementary School there will be a test of English & Math ability for students at grade level and an interview with parents.

Transfer students are expected to read, write at the grade level entering or at the level of up to one grade below.

Transfer Admission Requirements for English & Math:

Grade 1: Read & write basic sentences, complete reading comprehension with a teacher, count up to 100 in English, basic addition and subtraction. Students will also answer basic questions in an interview. (Eikken level 5-4)**

Grade 2 + Reading comprehension, reading fluency test, writing prompt, basic math skills including word problems in English and answer questions verbally in an interview with students at grade level.

Junior High: Read & write to US Grade 6 level including essay writing, reading comprehension, ability to answer questions verbally and to comprehend math problems written in English, Will need approximately TOEFL Jr score over 700, Eikken level 2.

Japanese level will be assessed and placed upon entering the school.

**Students applying to enter Grade 1 from September and finishing (Japanese calendar) preschool in April may enter SIS Preschool for a short-term preparation period from April to September. During this time students will join the LION class learning reading and writing, basic math skills and speaking in order to enter Grade 1. However, students will need a base of English phonics and basic reading before entering this preparatory program.

 
 

Applications Process

1. Send in application form with ¥5,000 processing fee per family.

2. Application will be reviewed and you will contacted within 10 days to arrange a teacher interview.  A brief test in English and Math will be given for those applying for Elementary or Junior High school

3. Admission decision will be made within 10 days of the interview. 

4. Entrance Fees must be paid within 2 weeks after admission is confirmed. 

 
 

Tuition & Fees

Please note Entrance Fees are non-refundable.

Tuition includes Building Fee and Materials Fee. The Materials Fee includes textbooks and any school events throughout the year. School trips and camp will be charged separately.
