Admission Process

  1. Submit an Application
    Begin by completing and submitting the application form.

  2. Application Review & Interview
    Once your application has been reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule an interview. A non-refundable processing fee of ¥5,000 per family is required at the time of the interview.

  3. Student Assessment
    During the interview, students applying to the Elementary or Junior High divisions will complete assessments in Math and English.

  4. Trial Day
    Following the interview and assessment, a trial day will be scheduled for your child. This allows us to observe how your child engages in the classroom environment and helps ensure that we can provide the best possible support for their learning and growth.

  5. Admissions Decision
    After the trial day, our administration team will carefully review the application and you will be contacted regarding the outcome as soon as possible.

  6. Acceptance & Enrollment
    If accepted, you will receive a confirmation email. Entrance fees must be paid within two weeks of acceptance to secure your child’s place.

Please contact the Sano International School Office if you are interested in applying for admission in September 2025.  Once your application has been received, you will be contacted to schedule an interview. 

For students entering elementary school, there will be an English and Math assessment to ensure they are at grade level, along with a parent interview.

Transfer students are expected to read and write at the grade level entering or at the level of up to one grade below.  

Transfer Admission Requirements for English & Math:

Grade 1: Read & write basic sentences, complete reading comprehension with a teacher, count up to 100 in English, basic addition and subtraction. Students will also answer basic questions in an interview. (Eikken level 5-4)*

Grade 2 + Reading comprehension, reading fluency test, writing prompt, basic math skills including word problems in English and answer questions verbally in an interview with students at grade level.

Junior High: Read & write to US Grade 6 level including essay writing, reading comprehension, ability to answer questions verbally and to comprehend math problems written in English, Will need approximately TOEFL Jr score over 700, Eikken level 2.

Japanese level will be assessed and placed upon entering the school.

Entrance fees:

Kindergarten- ¥100,000
Elementary - ¥100,000
Junior High - ¥100,000

Annual Tuition Fees:
Kindergarten - Junior High (grade 8) - ¥700,000
High School (grade 9-12) - ¥750,000

Sports Fee/ per student / 1 x a year - ¥10,000
